Non-adjustable MAF may be a 88 or 89 thing, like the Z32 part, which was designed to minimise people "tampering" with emissions. It seems that not all MAFs are the same inside although they may well be functionally the same. I've been able to compare a range of secondhand MAFs that ran correctly on my car and got significantly different resistance values over all the combinations of terminals. There is generally about 0-200 or 0-300ohm resistance range over about 3 to 4 turns of the screw. When you go past the limits, it will go open circuit or to no-resistance (0 ohm). If you put a multimeter between the A-and-C or A-and-D termnals on the MAF, you can get some idea of where the variable resistor is set. There is a limit to how far you can adjust the variable resistor in it. Since you still have the earlier, adjustable MAF, you could refit it and adjust it richer to see if it makes a difference. Since the engine will idle fairly well with the MAF disconnected, this suggests that there is enough air getting in to sustain a normal idle.Īs a quick check, when the engine is idling with the MAF disconnected, unplug the IACV unit and see if it makes a difference. I plan on properly adjusting ignition timing as well, because I have messed with it a little bit. Already replaced and properly adjusted throttle position sensor. I can't adjust the idle screw on the idle-up solenoid because the head is stripped. I had tried to adjust that screw to a leaner mixture, but it did absolutely nothing. My original airflow meter had the mixture adjustment screw, but the new one (a used part, I believe from an '86 model) doesn't. I think the engine is just getting way too much fuel and stalling itself out, but I don't know what to do about that. What could the problem be? It idles nice and smooth with the sensor disconnected, but not at all when it is. ![]() meaning it idles for about 3 seconds now rather than 2. Like I said, I replaced the MAF sensor, and it only runs a touch better than it did. I've been having an issue with my car not idling, and with the sensor disconnected, it idled no problem for a couple minutes. I replaced my MAF sensor/airflow meter after disconnecting my old one and finding that the car runs much better.
